Inaugural edition of Musannah tent pegging launched

The opening edition of Musannah tent pegging championship was launched in Musannah on Thursday.


The event was organised by the Equestrian Committee in Musannah city in cooperation with Oman International Academy for tent pegging with the supervision of the Oman Equestrian Federation (OEF).


The ceremony was held under the patronage of Ahmed bin Saif al Abri, Secretary-General of the Federation, and in the presence of Ali bin Saleh al Shabibi, Chairman of the Equestrian Committee in Musannah, several officials and equestrian enthusiasts.


The function started with a training course for tent pegging in which 100 male and female participants from inside and outside of Oman took part. The course was attended by Mansour bin Ali al Mahrouqi from Oman and Rashid Hamad al Marri from Saudi Arabia.


The lecturers dealt with the history of the tent pegging, also how it managed to develop until it reached today through the presence of an international federation for this sport that was announced in 2013 and is based in the Sultanate of Oman.


On Friday, the participants will witness the first edition of Musannah Championship for tent pegging, which will be held in Barcelo Resort Musannah under the patronage of Sayyid Khalid bin Mahfouz al Busaidy, with the participation of eight teams from different governorates, Musannah, Suwaiq, Suhar, Saham, Al Khabourah, Al Mudhaibi, Ibra, and Bahla. They will compete in six rounds, which are a single spear round, a sword singles round, two rings and a wedge with a spear, two lemons and a wedge with a sword, teams tour with a spear, and teams tour with a sword.
