Ministry organises forum on educational supervision

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Applied Science Supervision in the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision, organised the first virtual forum of the Research and Studies Committee, on Wednesday, under the auspices of Dr Suleiman al Jamoudi, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision. The theme of the forum was "Scientific Research between Theory and Practices in Educational Supervision of Applied Science Subjects."


Professors from Sultan Qaboos University and from the University of Nizwa attended the opening of the forum along with directors of the supervision departments and their assistants, the first supervisors and educational supervisors in the ministry's general office and the educational directorates in the governorates, as well as a number of first teachers and educational specialists from various schools of the educational directorates in the governorates.


The forum aimed to raise awareness about the importance of scientific research and field studies in developing educational supervision practices, and to benefit from scientific research in developing educational supervision. It also sought to benefit from local and international experiences in directing scientific research towards developing educational supervision practices and improving the teaching and learning processes. The forum aimed to instil positive practices in scientific research and field studies that help unleash the creative abilities of the staff in the educational field and enhance professional development and capacity building in the supervisory field.


The forum began with a speech by Dr Suleiman al Jamoudi, in which he explained the importance of educational supervision and the role of the educational supervisor in improving the educational process. Dr Mohammed bin Khalifa al Sinani, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Education at the College of Arts and Humanities at Al Sharqiya University, presented the main paper of the forum, which was titled “The Role of Action Research in Developing Supervisory Practices for Supervisors.”


The first session included three papers. Dr Khadija al Balushi, Assistant Director of the Department of Applied Science Supervision, presented the first paper entitled “The Effectiveness of Strategies That Stimulate Neurological Branching on Creative and Critical Thinking”. Khaled al Shidi, Mathematics Supervisor in North Al Batinah Governorate, presented the second paper entitled “The Effectiveness of Professional Learning Communities in Developing Electronic Assessment Skills for Mathematics and Science Teachers”. Salem al Numani, Systems Supervisor in North Al Batinah Governorate, presented the last paper titled "The Impact of the Electronic Supervisory Visit on the Degree of Teachers' Acceptance of Technology in the Supervisory Process".


The second session of the forum also included three papers, the first one came under the title “Emotional Intelligence and Servant Leadership and their Impact on the Self-Efficacy of Educational Supervisors”, presented by Dr Ali bin Zaher al Shukaili, General Supervisor of Islamic Subject at the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision. Laila bint Habib, first teacher of the second domain in Muscat Governorate, presented the second paper titled “The impact of the Second Domain Teachers’ Possession of Fluency Skills in Asking Oral Class Questions on Performance during the Teaching Process”. Lahya al Quraini, First Supervisor of the Second Domain in the Directorate-General of Educational Supervision, presented the third paper titled “The Reality of the Practice of Cloud Educational Supervision in Public Schools from the Point of View of Educational Supervisors”.
