MUSCAT: Bank Muscat has announced the opening of the Al Mahadir Sports and Culture Team sports field in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq as part of its flagship Green Sports CSR programme. The event was held

in the presence of Khalifa bin Hamad al Sakhbouri, Head of the Al Mahadir Sports and Culture Team in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq, and Abdullah bin Mohammed al Abri, Team Manager.

Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah al Shezawi, Regional Manager – South Al Batinah, Bank Muscat, said: “We are pleased to inaugurate the Al Mahadir Sports and Culture Team sports field within the Green Sports programme which is implemented by the bank as part of its strategy to enhance its leadership role in the field of corporate social responsibility and sustainability. On this occasion, the bank is pleased to congratulate the team’s management and appreciate their efforts during the various stages of the project. We would also like to wish them further growth, development and success as well as excellent contribution to local sports.”

He added that Bank Muscat would be opening a number of new Green Sports fields across the Sultanate of Oman for different youth teams in the coming months.

On his part, Khalifa bin Hamad al Sakhbouri, Head of Al Mahadir Team, thanked the bank for the completion of the team’s lighting system, which was implemented through Bank Muscat’s Green Sports programme. Pointing out that the new sports field will now be used to organise different sports, social and cultural activities and events, Al Sakhbouri affirmed that they will continue to work hard to advance the team and develop the capabilities and talents of its members, emphasising the team management's keenness to develop the project in the future and enhance the team's facilities.

Bank Muscat’s Green Sports programme is one of the leading CSR programmes in Oman which provides support to local sports teams as part of the bank’s efforts to develop sports infrastructure in Omani sports and provide green spaces throughout the Sultanate of Oman. The scope of support under the Green Sports programme includes installation of artificial turf or natural grass on sports fields, floodlighting and water-desalination systems. In 2021, the bank increased the number of annual beneficiaries to 20 on the occasion of the flagship CSR programme’s 10th Anniversary and the bank recently announced the 20 winners for this year. It is a matter of great encouragement that the Green Sports programme has benefited 163 teams and over 50,000 team members across the Sultanate of Oman so far.

The facilities developed as part of the programme are often used as a venue for other social activities by communities across Oman, leading to stronger social bonding and positive behaviour among young people as well as the development of talented Omani youth. Through the 2022 edition of this flagship CSR programme, Bank Muscat has further strengthened its pioneering role in the field of social responsibility and sustainability, and its continuing drive to develop modern sports infrastructure across Oman in the spirit of the Public-Private Partnership model.
