Oman national chess team started their participation in the Fide World Youth Championship from September 6 to 17 in Romania.

Oman team includes Abdulrahman al Zadjali in the U-16 category and Mohammed al Riyami in the U-14 category.

Mohamed al Riyami lost his first round match against Kazan Zaglo of Greece. Al Riyami will play the second round with Canada's Lyn Lo. Abdulrahman al Zadjali also lost in the first round against Hungary's Zik Zizou. Al Zadjali takes on Norwegia's Yaltrest Oil in the next round of the eight-rounds competition.

The Oman Chess Committee is preparing the local chess players to compete with the best players in the world in effort to improve the international ranking points for them.

Oman are participating in this tournament for the second time, after the first participation was via video communication in last year's edition, with the participation of Anas al Darwishi and Mohammed al Rashdi.

On the other hand, Oman Chess Committee in coordination with the Asian Chess Federation will host the Asian Amateur Chess Championship 2022, which will be held from September 28 to October 6 with participants from all Asian countries which are members of Fide.
