NIZWA: Al Jabal Al Akhdhar is considered one of the most beautiful tourist destinations not only in Oman but in the world. It is one of the most important destinations for summer tourism, recreation and relaxation due to its moderate weather, similar to the Mediterranean climate, outstanding natural components, integrated tourism facilities and distinctive resorts.

The mountain is characterised by the diversity of its rocks and geological formations dating back nearly 500 million years. In the heights of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, west of Seih Qatanah lies a group of “fossil waterfalls”.

They are petrified waterfalls in which rocks are deposited due to the flowing water over time. Due to the water flow on the rocky sediments, white calcifies accumulate to give an attractive shape.

The village of Al Ain, characterised by the splendor of the place overlooking the scenic beauty of nature, owns a waterfall called Wadi Al Ain Waterfall, which flows through its agricultural terraces. The agricultural terraces were built amazingly in the mountain, where various fruits and flowers grow, such as grapes, pomegranate and walnuts. It is famous for the presence of water springs and a water pool.

Also originates from this village aflaj Al Kabiri, Al A’awar and Al Qanti. This village is considered an important tourist and historic place because of its archaeological features, with its ancient villages and houses built of gravel and mud. Its residents are interested in scientific and cultural fields and take care of agriculture, livestock and the rose water distillation industry craft. -- Pictures by Sami al Hinai
