Muscat: The first edition of the National School Beach Games Championship in Salalah is entering the semis round today (Tuesday). Educational governorates teams from Dhofar, Al Wusta, North Al Batinah and Muscat sealed their spot in the semifinal of beach handball competitions. While teams of Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah and Dhofar progressed into semis round of beach volleyball competitions.
The hosts Dhofar team will take on Al Dakhiliyah in the first semifinal match of beach handball competitions while South Al Batinah team will face Al Dhahirah team. At the beach volleyball competitions, Dhofar team will meet Al Wusta team while Muscat team will play against North Al Batinah team.
The schooling sporting event, which is held under the organisation and supervision of Oman School Sports Association (OSSA) at the sandy fields of Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment venue in Salalah, featured tough competitions among the participated teams. Five clashes took place earlier on Monday. At the beach volleyball competitions, the hosts Dhofar Educational governorate team managed to defeat north Al Sharqiyah team 2-0 while Muscat team beat Al Dakhiliyah team with the same result. The final clash between Al Wusta and Al Dhahirah ended for the former by 2-1.
At the beach handball competitions, Al Dhahirah team registered a 2-0 win over Al Wusta team while the hosts Dhofar team managed to seal spot in semis after defeating South Batinah team in penalties 4-3 as the regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw.
As many as 110 students representing seven different educational governorates from the Sultanate of Oman are taking part in the National School Beach Games Championship in Salalah. The championship targeted on spreading educational moral values and the necessity of sporting culture to the students and aims to act as a crucial event that may contribute to discover and develop the talented students in beach games.
