Oman's Met Office predicts more rains today

Muscat: Oman's Met Office on Saturday said the agency has observed cloud activity in the Sea of Oman and its expected to gradually flow towards the atmosphere of the Sultanate, starting from the governorates of Muscat and South Al Sharqiyah, and then to other governorates, with chances of rain of varying intensity.


The Met said clouds advection over most of the Sultanate with partly cloudy skies likely to bring isolated rains. Gradually the intensity of the rainfall will increase during daytime and afternoon and evening over mountainous parts of Governorates of Muscat, Dhofar, South al Sharqiya, North Al Sharqiya, Al Dhakiliyah, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahira and Al Buraimi governorates.


Expected impacts:



  • Thundershowers within the range of 20 - 60 mm, which may cause flow of some wadis (flash floods) with chances of hail.

  • Downdraft winds within the speed range of 30 - 70 km/h, which can cause unstable objects to collapse.

  • Decreasing of horizontal visibility due to the thundershowers and rising dust.

  • Rough sea over Arabian Sea coastal areas with maximum wave height of 4.0 meters and moderate along the coastal areas of Oman Sea with maximum of 2 meters.
