Young Omanis and Koreans took part in a cultural celebration held at the Korean Embassy in Muscat on June 9, 2022. It was organised with the support of OK Nuri, a voluntary group of Omani fans of Korean culture.
At the event, Korean students donned Omani dishdasha and sirwal outfits provided by members of OK Nuri. Omani participants, in turn, wore the hanbok, the traditional Korean costume. Both sides appreciated the beauty and traditional elegance embodied in the design of Omani and Korean costumes. Another highlight of the event was the opportunity to study the intricacies of each other’s traditional handicrafts, including those created on the spot.
In a statement, Kim Kiejoo – Korean Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, said he highly valued the voluntary cultural exchange activities organised at the grassroots level which, he noted, contributes substantially to mutual understanding, exchanges and support in other parts of the bilateral relationship.
Ambassador Kim emphasised that “promoting knowledge about the respective traditions and cultures is a great privilege for the Koreans and Omanis as the two countries are endowed with a rich history and cultural heritage”. The Korean Embassy, he stressed, would “continue to work together with the Omani and Korean friends to promote people-to-people exchanges.”
Members of the OK Nuri Group voiced their keenness to continue their work as a ‘cultural bridge’ to link the Omani and Korean people. They also pledged to contribute to the “already strong bonds of friendship” between the two peoples and countries.
