Green houses for people with special needs

Ibra: Al Wafa Centre for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in the Wilayat of Ibra in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate inaugurated the Green Houses Project. The project comes within the framework of joint cooperation with the Dar Al Atta'a Charitable Society to support people with disabilities and is funded by National Finance Company through its social responsibility programme


The project was inaugurated by Maryam bint Issa al Zadjali, Member of the State Council, and President of Dar Al Atta'a Charitable Society, in the presence of a number of officials.


Hamad bin Muhammad al Mushaiqri, Director of the Department of Social Development in Ibra, said: "The greenhouse project comes within the framework of the partnership between the Ministry of Social Development represented by the Al Wafa Centers for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in the various governorates, civil society institutions and the private sector.”


He added that the project will contribute directly to opening avenues for people with special needs and that this initiative is a role model and in providing vocational rehabilitation services to enable them to lead lives without relying on others.


Siham al Kharousi, Director of Empowerment Department at Dar Al Atta'a Charitable Society, said: "The project will contribute to strengthening the role of functional integration programmes for people with special needs at the Al Wafa Social Center by enrolling them in the production and marketing of farm produce." She pointed out that the association seeks, through the empowerment programme, to contribute to creating sustainable projects aimed at serving the community and achieving social solidarity.

She said the idea of green houses is based on the establishment of agricultural reserves to cultivate seasonal vegetables of value and commercial demand in various outlets, pointing out that the project targets persons with disabilities, families with limited income and families benefiting from Dar Al Atta'a programmes.


She pointed out that the number of houses adopted by the Dar Al Atta'a Charitable Society in various Al Wafa centers for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman amounted to 13 green greenhouses at a total cost of RO 48,750.


She explained that the project is among the 9 initiatives for green greenhouses that are being implemented by the association in cooperation with National Finance Company. It funded various projects in various Al Wafa centers located in the Wilayat of Ibra in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, the Wilayat of Nizwa in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah, the Wilayat of Ibri in the Al Dhahirah Governorate and the Wilayat of Al Buraimi. Al Buraimi Governorate, in addition to the wilayats of Shinas in the North Al Batinah Governorate, Khasab in the Musandam Governorate, and Al Rustaq in the South Al Batinah Governorate. — ONA
