Transport minister visits North Al Sharqiyah Governorate

Ibra: Engineer Said bin Hamood al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, on Wednesday, paid an inspection visit to North Al Sharqiyah Governorate accompanied by Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamakhi, Transport Undersecretary and a number of the ministry’s officials.


At the beginning of the visit, the minister met with Shaikh Ali bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Governor of North Al Sharqiyah in his offices in the Wilayat of Ibra in the presence of walis. A number of developmental and organizational projects in the transport field were discussed during the meeting.


The minister stressed the importance of road networks in enhancing social communication, facilitating traffic and movement of citizens and residents between the wilayats and governorates, and underpinning the economic, tourism and investment sectors.


The minister said the ministry is currently preparing a matrix of national priority roads envisioned for the current five-year plan as well as initiatives that were announced during the ministry’s ninth media forum most notably the logistic land bridge initiative and the initiative for linking tourist areas with main roads. This is in addition to a programme aimed at repairing flood-damaged roads.


The minister also visited a number of areas in the wilayats of Ibra, Al Qabil and Bidiya and met with citizens and members of Majlis Ash’shura representing the wilayats of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, members of the Municipal Council, and listened to their needs and suggestions about road projects.
