ANKARA: The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Turkey affirmed that the search is still on for an Omani national who fell into a river in the city of Ayder north of Turkey, and that it is following up with the Turkish authorities for updates.

In comments to Oman News Agency, Dr Qasim bin Mohammed al Salhi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Turkey, said that the Turkish authorities on Saturday prepared a new plan by searching through small waterfalls of the river and using ropes to go down the river since it is probable that the missing person may have fallen between the rocks.

Ayder is a summer resort in Rize Province, Turkey, and the most attractive feature is its dense forest and several waterfalls. In 1987 the location was declared a tourist centre by Turkish government.

Ayder, famous for its rhododendron honey, which is produced in beehives hung on trees, is 150 km and a 2-hour drive from Trabzon Airport. The way to Ayder is rich in natural waterfalls, forests and restaurants spreading on both sides.

Meanwhile, the ambassador called on citizens to follow safety instructions pertaining to tourism in Turkey to avoid such accidents. — ONA
