Muscat: The inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman rose by 2.7% in April 2022 compared to April 2021. The inflation rate also went up by 0.6% compared to March 2022, according to the latest data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The data indicate a rise in the prices of main groups in April 2022 compared to the same month in 2021, such as food and non-alcoholic beverages by 5.4%, education by 5.1%, health by 2.8%, transport by 2.4%, miscellaneous goods and services by 2.2%, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group by 2%, recreation and culture by 1.4%, restaurants and hotels by 1.2%, clothing and footwear by 1.1% and furniture, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 0.3%. Meanwhile, the tobacco group declined by 1.1%.
Prices also went up for oils and fats by 14.9%, vegetables by 9.8%, fruits by 8%, meats by 7.7%, fish and seafood by 6.5%, bread and cereals by 2.7%, sugar, jam, honey and sweets by 1.8%, milk, cheese and eggs by 1.3% and other foodstuff by 0.9%, while the prices of non-alcoholic beverages went down by 0.2%.
