Health technology assessment workshop begins

MUSCAT: The Health Technology Assessment (HTA) training workshop, organised by the Directorate General of Medical Supplies at the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Syreon Corporation, began here on Sunday.


The opening ceremony of the one-week workshop was held under the auspices of Dr Mohammed bin Saif al Hosni, Ministry of Health’s Under-Secretary for Health Affairs, in the presence of members of the Higher Technical Committee of Drug, as well the ministry’s senior officials.


MoH’s Under-Secretary for Health Affairs stressed the significance of the workshop, hoping that it would be beneficial in terms of evaluating medications as well the various types of medical devices.


The workshop, led by Professor Zoltán Kaló from Hungary, aims at building capacities of the work group concerned with studying the specialised medicines assessment, which is submitted to the Higher Technical Committee of Drug.


It is designed to build capacities for HTA by carrying out a hybrid cost-effectiveness studies.


The training programme is divided into four parts. The first part will start this week addressing several topics that includes economic analysis, decision-based economic analysis, health care financing, economic models such as Surgery model, Markov model, and Flu model.
