Muscat: A specialized medical team from the Royal Hospital conducted four kidney transplant surgeries in one week. It used advanced endoscopes to end the suffering of two children and four adults who had been inflicted with chronic complications.

The accomplishment caps the success of the National Programme for Human Organ and Tissue Transplant.

The programme assumed legal status when its organizational regulation was issued and endorsed in 2018. It aims to streamline targets and principles in the field of organ and tissue transplants, besides lending support to research in related clinical areas.

The medical team comprised cadres from the Royal Hospital, including Dr Mohammed al Abri, Dr Khalid al Bulushi, Dr Mohammed Salah, Dr Shatha al Zaabi, Dr Ashraf Abdulsalam, Dr Nawal al Sharji, Dr Mohammed al Riyami, Dr Naveen al Kalbani, Dr Sadiq al Lawati, Dr Faisal al Ismaili, Dr Issa al Salmi, Dr Mohammed Hamed, Dr Marwa al Bulushi, nurse Khadia al Habsi and other assisting teams. It also saw the participation of Dr Fairuz Amir, an expert of kidney transplantation and advanced laparoscopic surgeries.
