Royal Cavalry claim tent-pegging titles

MUSCAT: The Royal Cavalry bagged the singles and teams titles in the tent pegging championship organised by the Oman Equestrian Federation at Al Rahba race tracks in Barka on Sunday.


In the concluding event of the tent-pegging season 2021-22, 71 male and female riders from 18 teams participated from various government cavalry units, equestrian committees and special centres, the Nameer Equestrian School in Saham, the Horse Racing Committee in Al Mudhaibi and the Lejam Equestrian Team in Al Suwaiq.


The closing ceremony was sponsored by Hamoud bin Saeed al Nahdi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Nahdi Real Estate Services, in the presence of Ahmed bin Saif al Abri, Secretary-General and Chairman of the Competitions Committee.


The Royal Cavalry won the teams and singles titles through rider Saif bin Hamoud al Ashkari and the Leem team bagged the city titles for teams and singles through Ali Bin Saleh al Balushi, while the Royal Oman Police achieved the women’s title through Ghanima bint Abdullah al Shukaili.


The tournament included four rounds for teams and individuals. The first round was to pick up an individual stake with a sword size of 6 cm, the second round was to cut two lemons and pick up an individual stake with a sword size of 4 cm, and the third round was for teams to pick up a picket stake with a sword size of 4 cm, and the fourth round was for teams to pick up a stake with a sword size of 4 cm.


The Royal Cavalry Team won first place in the general teams category through Hamad bin Nasser al Riyami, Hamad bin Saif al Raisi, Safwan bin Zaid al Maamari and Saif bin Hamoud al Ashkari with 252 points. The Royal Oman Police team won the second place through Marwan bin Yousef al Balushi, Hussain bin Ali al Hosani, Salem bin Khamis al Harthy and Haitham bin Khalfan al Siyabi with 229 points. The Royal Guard of Oman team claimed third through Rashid bin Hamad Al Sawai, Salem bin Sulaiman al Qutaiti, Dhafer bin Rashid al Zaabi and Ali bin Ali bin Hamoud al Rajbi who earned 227.5 points.


On the general individual category, Ali bin Saleh al Balushi (Leejam) claimed the top spot and second place while ROP's Hussein bin Ali al Hosani finished third.



AL LEEJAM CLAIM CITIES TITLE


In the cities team category, Al Lejam Equestrian Centre won the first place, represented by Ali bin Saleh al Balushi, Humaid bin Saeed al Munuri, Bassam bin Khalil al Balushi and Nasser bin Saif al Hashemi with 212.5 points. The Horse Committee team from Al Mudhaibi was second with riders Sami bin Ali al Haddadi, Saif bin Ali al Jabri, Muhammad bin Amer al Jabri and Saeed al Abroui collecting 195 points. The Al Lejam Equestrian Centre team from Al Suwaiq was third with 165.5 points.


In the individual cities category, Ali bin Saleh al Balushi of the Equestrian team won the first place, Nasser bin Saif al Hashemi (Equestrian Team B) was second and Sami bin Ali al Hadadi from the Horse Committee team from Al Mudhaibi finished third.


In women's section, ROP's Ghanima bint Abdullah Al Shukaili took the top spot with 49.5 points, Royal Army of Oman riders Turkih bint Mahmoud al Balushi was second with 46 points and Amal al Maskariah finished third with 26 points.
