International Tent Pegging Traditional championship concludes in Duqm

Muscat: Iraq’s riders dominated at the International Tent Pegging Traditional championship by winning the overall title.


On the concluding day on Saturday in Duqm, Oman’s riders Hamed al Riyami and Safwan al Mamari led the third day competition while rider Safwan al Mamari claimed the first place award of individual category and rider Hamed al Riyami was positioned as the runner-up. The Russian rider Fidor was positioned in the third place.


Sheikh Sabaa bin Hamdan bin Sabaa Al-Saadi, the Secretary General of the Higher Committee for National Day Celebrations, was the chief guest on the concluding ceremony in presence of Mohammed Issa Al Fairuz, Chairman of the International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF) and top officials.


The chief guest distributed the awards to the top-place winners and awarded the individual category prices to the participants beside honoring the best riders awards.


Oman’s riders showed top performance during the three days championship. Oman’s rider Hamed al Riyami named as the best rider in the championship after leading the table and presenting solid performance.



The Iraq team clinched the first place award in the overall category while the Oman team was positioned in the second place. The Sudan team are positioned in third place.


As many as 33 riders took part in the International Tent Pegging Traditional championship which began on Thursday and lasted for three days in Duqm.


The riders who took part in the championship were representing different countries including: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Iraq, UK, Germany, Norway, Iran, Russia, Pakistan, Canada, USA, Jordan, Sudan, Palestine, Syria and the hosts the Sultanate of Oman.


The championship, which was under organization of the International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF) which is based in Muscat, started with Tent Pegging events through Individual lance, Pairs lance and team lance (show).


In all the three days, the championship registered tough competition among the participated riders as all the participants were looking to secure more points and snatch the top places awards.
