Omani citizens who have a licence to fly drones have been asked not to fly drones for fun or just to capture flash floods images. Instead, they have been requested to take part in the rescue and surveillance missions of the National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM).

Oman issues a licence to fly drones only to the citizens, and anyone without a licence cannot fly a drone.

"We ask the drone owners not to use them now for picture purposes to give priority to the search and rescue teams to accomplish their tasks," a spokesperson at the NCEM said.

Due to the hovering UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), helicopters of search, rescue and evacuation are not able to implement their tasks.

"We urge all licensees to stop using these drones and give more space to the search and rescue teams."

Meanwhile, the NCEM has urged people to continue to take precautions and not to cross wadis or low-lying areas as flashfloods continue.

"In view of the flash floods and overflowing wadis, people are advised not to cross low-lying areas or wadis and take precautions while driving or crossing these areas," NCEM statement said.

The roads that were closed near the Ministries District, Bausher-Amerat mountain road and where traffic was stopped in Suwaiq, Saham and Musanah, are partly opened while efforts are on to reinstate vehicle movement in other areas.
