MUSCAT: Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), hailed the efforts taken by the Sultanate to curb the spread of coronavirus, represented by the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) and Oman TV, Dr Tedros expressed delight at “the considerable decline in the number of Covid-19 cases — infections, ICU inpatients and deaths.” This improvement, he noted, is credited to the wise decisions of Covid-19 Supreme Committee, as well as the commitment of all to precautionary measures and high rate of vaccination.

Earlier, Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health, said the epidemiological situation of Covid-19 pandemic in Oman is improving continuously, attested by a steady decline in the number of new infections and deaths. Today, only 20 patients are admitted to intensive care units in the Sultanate.

In a statement to ONA and Oman TV, the minister stressed the need to keep adhering to precautionary measures because, he said, the pandemic is lurking, with many other countries registering a big surge in
