

MUSCAT: The public and private establishments continue their efforts to follow up the effects caused by heavy rains witnessed by some wilayats of the Sultanate. Work teams have been formed to identify certain issues and report them to the relevant authorities to find suitable solutions for them.
In the Wilayat of Sur, the government and private bodies continue their efforts to repair the damage resulting from the severe weather conditions which hit the wilayat recently.
Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, conducted a field visit to the affected areas to follow up the workflow and to take suitable decisions in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Shaikh Saqr bin Sultan al Shukaili, Wali of Sur, and Abdullah al Hajri, Director-General at the Municipality of South Al Sharqiyah, conducted a series of visits to the affected areas during which they held several meetings with local officials to ensure seamless rehabilitation work.
The Sur Municipality began early to repair the damage resulting from heavy rains by targeting the areas worst hit by the flow of wadis. All efforts were made to remove rainwater from the electricity generation plants to restore power supply after being disrupted at health institutions and government offices. Efforts were also made to remove blocks in rainwater drainage systems on the main roads to open them to traffic.
It’s noteworthy that the Wilayat of Sur recorded 200 mm of rain on a single day thus taking fifth place worldwide for highest amount of rainfall in 24 hours.
