The Sultanate got some reprieve on Sunday on the Covid front, as the number of cases reported for three days was relatively less compared to June 27 figures.

The number of sick patients or active cases has dropped by 1,367 to 29,009 from 30,376 on Thursday. In addition, the total recovery rate has improved to 88.3 per cent from 87.6 during this period.

At the same time, there is no respite from the number of deaths, which is a record for a Sunday at 143. It may be noted that the Ministry of Health (MoH) has reported for 50 daily deaths for the first time on Friday.

The MoH on Sunday reported 4,662 new cases and 143 deaths. As per June 27 figures, there were 5,517 cases and 119 deaths.

Of these, 1,862 and 50 deaths were reported on Thursday, 1,569 and 48 deaths on Friday and 1,272 and 45 deaths on Saturday.

The total number of cases registered in the Sultanate has now reached 275,166, including 3,283 deaths.

One hundred seventy-one patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of inpatients to 1,589, including 532 in intensive care units.

Meanwhile, with the Eid al Adha and holidays approaching, the WHO has stressed the importance of maintaining effective personal protective measures as we observe religious practices and festivities.

“This Eid al Adha let us make sure that no one is harmed because of their own complacency or the complacency of others, and let us celebrate Eid al-Adha safely this year.”

It added, “We can remain socially connected but we must adhere to physical distancing measures by avoiding physical greetings, social feasts, and other social gatherings as much as possible.

Some of the simplest measures can have huge consequences for our joint efforts in fighting and containing the pandemic.”

DINNING FOR HOTEL GUESTS

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has issued a new decision, allowing the four- and five-star hotel establishments to operate dining halls in restaurants and cafes during the ban on movement between 8 pm and 4 am, which will be limited to in-house guests.

The decision is effective from July 11 until further notice.

All hotel and tourist establishments must abide by the decisions issued by the Supreme Committee to avoid legal accountability.
