The number of inpatients in hospitals and those in ICUs saw a decline in the past 24 hours. Still there is no reprieve from the daily deaths from Covid-19.
While 76 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, the number of inpatients dropped below 700 to 693. Those in intensive care units dropped to 244.
The Ministry of Health announced 812 new cases of Covid-19 and 13 deaths on Tuesday. Of these, 390 cases and two deaths were reported from Muscat, and 99 were from North Al Batinah. South Al Sharqiyah accounted for four deaths on Tuesday.
The total number of cases registered in the Sultanate has now reached 207,109, including 2,219 deaths.
The total number of recoveries stand at 191,539, while the recovery rate dropped to 92.4 per cent from over 93 per cent on Monday.
Meanwhile, it was announced that vaccination for General Education Diploma (GED) or Grade 12 students in all governorates of the Sultanate will begin on May 25.
Badr Saif al Rawahi, Director of Contagious Disease Department at the Ministry of Health, said that the campaign covers all GED students in government and private schools, as well as the teaching staff, members of exam committees, invigilators, proctors, those attending exams of GED and its equivalents and supervisors at marking centres. As many as 75,725 GED students will take the vaccine.
Nearly 72 per cent (78,098 persons) in the target groups (60 years and above) have received vaccination till date, according to the ministry.
As many as 214,192 people have received the first dose of the two Covid-19 vaccines - Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca, between December 27 and May 15.
According to the ministry's statistics, the total number of vaccinated health workers stood at 35,184 with a coverage rate of 91 per cent, while among other categories, a total of 100,910 persons have received the vaccines.
