Al Hamra: The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority(CDAA) on Thursday with the support of the Police Aviation, the Royal Air Force of Oman and other teams from the Royal Oman Police managed to douse 85% of the wildfire that broke out at the Ras Al-Harq area of the Wilayat of Al Hamra.

The Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority used the Police Aviation and the Royal Air Force of Oman aircraft to contain the fire as helicopters were unable to carry out operations because of the rugged mountainous terrain and the lack of water sources.

The agency said the fire has not affected any residential area in the vicinity.

The Royal Oman Police said more than 250 personnel from different formations were transported through 5 aircraft belonging to the Police Aviation and the Royal Air Force of Oman to manage the wildfire.

ROP said efforts are still continuing to extinguish the rest of the fire during the next few hours.

The cause of the wildfire that engulfed the Al Hamra mountains are yet to be determined.

Many of the governorates across the Sultanate recorded temperatures above 50 degrees Celcius on Wednesday.
