The first dose of vaccines will be given to the employees of the state’s administrative apparatus in the Governorate of Muscat, according to prior coordination with each authority, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Muscat said on Saturday.
The Ministry of Health will also continue to give the second dose of vaccines to all eligible citizens.
The DGHS said that the centres are Allenbhae School for Basic Education in Seeb, Quriyat polyclinic, Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, Imam Jaber bin Zaid School in Wattayah, and Office of the Governor of Al Amerat. Timings are between 8 am and 2 pm.
The MoH announced that the target groups as part of the national campaign for immunization against Covid-19 for the months June and July will represent a large segment of the population.
Vaccination of the population above 45 years of age will commence from June 21.
While vaccination is a safe and effective way to avoid Covid-19, it is also important to adhere to precautionary measures that would contribute to return to normal life soon, health experts said. The MoH has confirmed the safety of the vaccines used in the Sultanate and added that no serious complications have been reported from vaccinated target groups.
Dr Reda bin Issa al Lawati, an internal medicine expert, has said that rumors have created a reluctance among some people to take doses, which often result in people falling ill and getting hospitalized.
At the same time, many people take doses without fear.
He stated that among the safe and effective vaccines used in the Sultanate, the first to be used and approved by all countries is Pfizer-BioNtech vaccines. With trials conducted on 44,000, it has an efficiency percentage of 95 percent.
Oxford-AstraZeneca is also approved in the Sultanate.
