When the authority is ill-managed

Fortunes and fates have been granted by Almighty Allah to all human being regardless of their origin, religion, language, interest and culture. Whether it’s positive or negative, pleasing or displeasing, at the end these experiences are part of life.
Whatever people come across is for their own good regardless of how hard or easy it is. Sooner or later, they will discover the lesson or message behind it.
That is life. It shows people both ways of learning things: easy and hard.
It’s all about everyone’s chance in life as some people earn a fortune and become wealthy, while others are just the means behind making others’ dreams come true.
According to the Holy Quran, “We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others. But the Mercy of the lord is better than the (wealth) which they amass.”
We believe in this as whatever we get is a blessing that works well for us despite its conflict with our wishes. A case in point: Those who have been given the authority should be more responsible and competent.
With authority comes the responsibility. While they have accepted the authority, they are also obliged to shoulder the responsibility of their team, job-related tasks and all related problems.
Otherwise, they don’t deserve that authority. Thus, they prove their inability to hold the position or handle the responsibility. That’s why some officials or bosses are not accountable to the authority given to them. It is unfair to teams they are in charge of.
Accordingly, people will find it difficult to depend on them. Teams and colleagues will not rely on them anymore.
The “irresponsibility” of such people could take different forms, some of which is the reluctance to take decisions, misleading the teams and inability to support their teams.
Unfortunately, there are many who get a higher position by fortune or in return for scratching other’s backs. They are unable to handle the responsibilities. Sometimes, they could be challenged by their own team members who are more capable.
How can such an irresponsible and incapable boss lead a team or advise them? A blind person cannot guide others and show them the way.
His colleagues will feel insecure because they can’t rely on him. As Mother Teresa said, “If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”
People’s talents in different spheres of life complement each other’s needs, but when it comes to leadership it should be given to a competent person.
A boss cannot always be a leader. He might be able to execute things alone but unable to lead a team. Thus, leadership and authority should be given to the people who are more responsible, reliable, wise and confident.
Otherwise, the result will be disappointment and distraction to the team. A leader is one who shoulders responsibilities and not who becomes a burden.
Yet, we can do nothing about it, but to accept the fact. Perhaps it’s the irony of life.
