Oman U-16 handball team to commence Asian campaign today

MUSCAT, Sept 15 - Oman national under-16 handball team will commence their campaign at the Asian Championship tin Jordan on Sunday. The Sultanate team will take on Bahrain in the opening match which will begin at 4:15 pm (Oman time). The Oman team is grouped in the first group along with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and China. While second group comprises Iraq, South Korea, India and Syria. As many as 16 teams are competing in the eight edition of the championship to clinch the title. The teams in the top four in this championship will qualify directly to the World Cup in Macedonia.


The technical committee of the national team finished all the internal/external camps, friendly matches and training sessions. The team which is headed by Khalil al Mashari, head coach of the national handball junior team, is focusing on the opening match and hoping to grab the first victory to encourage the team in achieving better results in the coming rounds. Oman team played three friendly matches against Iraq during the internal camp of the team recently. The Sultanate team suffered three losses in all the preparatory matches against Iraq. However, the technical committee represented by coach Al Mashari noted down all the strength and weakness points and will be hoping to address it going forward.
