BUSINESS REPORTER

SALALAH, OCT 29

Integrated Gypsum Company LLC (IGC) has signed a Sub-Usufruct Agreement for the development of an integrated industrial project for gypsum products and modern building materials at Salalah Free Zone, with a targeted first-phase investment of up to OMR 10 million. The project aims to strengthen Oman’s downstream manufacturing sector, maximize the value added from Omani mineral resources, and support the Sultanate’s drive to expand non-oil industrial exports.

The project will be developed on a site exceeding 112,000 square metres, strategically located near the Port of Salalah, providing access to Dhofar’s industrial and logistics capabilities and facilitating exports to regional and international markets.

The planned industrial complex will produce an integrated range of gypsum boards, processed gypsum powder, gypsum plaster, and gypsum-based dry-mix products, supporting the transformation of locally available raw materials into higher-value finished industrial products.

The project targets a design capacity of up to 40 million square metres of gypsum boards annually, including standard, fire-resistant, moisture-resistant and water-resistant boards, together with targeted production capacities of up to 300,000 tonnes per year of processed gypsum powder and 150,000 tonnes per year of gypsum plaster and dry-mix products, subject to final designs, contracts, implementation plans, operational requirements and relevant approvals.

The project is being developed through a combination of Omani, international and European investment and strategic partnerships, bringing together national resources and capabilities with international engineering, technical, manufacturing, quality and market-development expertise.

Integrated Mining Industries LLC (IMI) serves as the Project Developer, while Integrated Gypsum Company LLC (IGC) is the Project Company and Owner, responsible for implementing the project, entering into the relevant contracts, operating its facilities, and manufacturing and marketing its products in accordance with the applicable contractual and regulatory frameworks.

Al Gharbia Enterprises Trading & Contracting Group is participating as the project’s Local Strategic Partner, bringing its longstanding capabilities in contracting, construction and infrastructure, while exploring opportunities for cooperation in investment and participation in the project’s civil and construction works, subject to the relevant agreements and contractual arrangements.

The project’s products are intended to be manufactured and marketed under the Omani brand GypsOm, in accordance with the quality, technical, registration and certification requirements applicable in each target market.

Commenting on the signing, Eng Yaqoob al Hadhrami, Chairman of Integrated Mining Industries, said: “We believe that the true value of our mineral resources lies not simply in extracting and exporting them as raw materials, but in transforming them within the Sultanate of Oman into higher-value finished industrial products. This project brings together Omani resources with local, international and European investment and expertise to develop competitive products under the GypsOm brand, reaching regional and global markets from Salalah.”

Dr Jan Holko, Chairman of Global Flair, a shareholder in Project Company and an International Strategic Partner of the project, said: “The project represents a promising opportunity to build a competitive presence for Omani products in European markets, benefiting from the quality of local raw materials, Salalah’s strategic location and the export capabilities offered by the Port of Salalah. We will support the market entry of GypsOm products into Europe and develop commercial relationships with potential partners and customers in line with the quality, technical and certification requirements of those markets.”
