BUSINESS REORTER
MUSCAT, OCT 29
Voltamp Energy SAOG, one of Oman’s leading manufacturers of electrical transformers, has announced plans to establish a specialised power transformer manufacturing facility in Sohar Freezone, involving an estimated investment of RO 20 million.
The proposed facility, which will primarily target international export markets, represents a significant expansion of the company's manufacturing footprint and supports its strategy of strengthening its presence in overseas markets.
In a regulatory filing to the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX), Voltamp disclosed that it had signed a land lease agreement in Sohar Freezone for the development of the manufacturing complex.
The project will be implemented through Voltamp International LLC – Sohar Free Zone, a wholly owned subsidiary established following a Board of Directors resolution on August 5, 2026.
According to the company, the facility will specialise in manufacturing power transformers tailored to international export market requirements, with a total production capacity of 5,000 MVA (megavolt-amperes).
The estimated RO 20 million investment will be deployed over a five-year period, with financing arranged through local banking institutions and disbursed in phases linked to project milestones.
Significantly, Phase 1 of the manufacturing project is scheduled for completion during 2027, positioning Voltamp to progressively expand its production capabilities and international market reach.
The investment also underscores Sohar Freezone's growing appeal as a manufacturing and export-oriented industrial hub, supported by its strategic location, port connectivity and access to international shipping routes.
Voltamp said the new facility would serve as a premier export hub for the company, driving sustained business growth and enhancing shareholder value.
