MUSCAT: Two students of Indian School Bausher, Niyola Pinto and Ilaan Shafeek, won a combined six medals representing India at the Asian Schools Team Chess Championship in Russia.

Competing in classical, rapid and blitz chess, the young players demonstrated their skills and consistency against strong international opponents.

Niyola, competing as part of the Yakshini Niyola Rajeswari team, won gold in rapid chess and silver medals in classical and blitz chess.

Ilaan, who competed as part of the Ilaan, Neithal and Arnav team, secured three silver medals across the classical, rapid and blitz formats.

Their performances highlighted their dedication, preparation and ability to adapt to the different demands of each format. While classical chess requires strategic planning and deep calculation, rapid and blitz chess test quick thinking, concentration and decision-making under time pressure.

A PROUD ACHIEVEMENT

The students' success is a matter of pride for Indian School Bausher's management, principal, teachers, fellow students and parents. Their achievements highlight the potential of young Indian students studying in Oman to excel on the international stage.

Chess also helps develop analytical thinking, patience, discipline and problem-solving skills, complementing academic learning and contributing to students' overall development.

The parents of Niyola and Ilaan expressed their gratitude to the school's principal and teachers for their encouragement and support. They acknowledged the school's role in providing an environment that enables students to pursue their interests and develop their talents beyond academics.

They also expressed hope that the students' achievements would inspire more young people to take up chess and other sporting activities while maintaining academic excellence.

The six medals represent a significant milestone for the students, their families and the school community. Their success in Russia underscores the importance of supporting extracurricular activities and nurturing young talent for national and international competitions.

Indian School Bausher celebrated the students' outstanding performances, which have brought recognition to the school and pride to the Indian community in Oman.
