MUSCAT, OCT 26

Three members of Oman’s national Under-16 tennis team are competing in two Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) tournaments in Manama, Bahrain, as they seek to gain competitive experience and earn ranking points.

Areen al Azkawi, Abdulrahman al Rahbi and Moataz al Mazroui have been selected for the tournaments, which run from October 24 to November 6. Their participation will be staggered across the two events under the Oman Tennis Association’s programme to develop young national team players.

Al Azkawi has received a main-draw wild card from the Bahrain Tennis Federation, giving her direct entry into the girls’ competition. Al Rahbi has also been awarded a main-draw wild card, while Al Mazroui has received a main-draw wild card for one tournament and a qualifying wild card for the other.

The two tournaments provide an opportunity for the Omani players to sharpen their skills through competitive matches while building their positions in the Asian rankings. Earning ranking points is a key objective of the association’s overseas competition programme, helping players improve their prospects for future international entries.

By arranging appearances across successive tournaments, the association aims to give the three players sustained exposure to competition and support their progression at junior level.
