MUSCAT: Oman’s national junior tennis squad has completed its arrival in Cairo after the second and third groups joined the ongoing overseas training camp at Smash Tennis Academy.
Players from the Under-14 and Under-10 teams arrived in the Egyptian capital to join the Under-16 squad, which began its training programme on July 17.
A total of 13 male and female players are taking part in the camp, which is being held at the academy for the second successive year following the positive results achieved during last year’s programme.
The Oman Tennis Association aims to strengthen the technical abilities of players across the different age groups and prepare them for upcoming regional, continental and international competitions.
The Under-14 squad comprises Munther al Amri, Emad al Rahbi and Reema al Hashmi, accompanied by team official Mohammed al Dairi. Their training programme will continue until August 8.
The Under-10 group includes Omar al Shaibani, Hatim al Rahbi, Houd al Hashmi, Fayyadh al Hilali and Ali al Riyami, with Ahmed al Balushi serving as head of the delegation. Their camp will run until August 15.
The first group, comprising the Under-16 players, includes Abdulrahman al Rahbi, Mutaaz al Mazroui, Areen al Azkawi, Salma al Riyami and Talia al Busaidy. Sara Abdulmajeed al Balushi is accompanying the group as delegation head. Their training programme will also continue until August 15.
Ahmed al Balushi said the camp had been planned well in advance by the Oman Tennis Association’s Board of Directors as part of its development programme for the national junior teams.
“The camp forms part of the association’s plans to train and prepare players from the various age groups for the overseas competitions awaiting them during the coming period,” he said.
He added that the association regularly organises overseas training camps to provide young players with greater competitive exposure and opportunities to develop their technical skills.
“Smash Tennis Academy was selected following the successful experience we had last year, when our players benefited significantly and showed noticeable improvement in their technical level,” he said.
The players are also expected to compete in friendly matches and tournaments on the sidelines of the camp, which features junior players from several Arab countries.
Al Balushi added the academy has qualified and experienced coaches, and our players are keen to benefit from their expertise and produce their best performances.
He also thanked the players’ parents for their cooperation in facilitating their participation in the camp and supporting the association’s efforts to develop the national teams.
“Everyone is working hard to help our players achieve positive results in their forthcoming overseas competitions,” he concluded.
