MUSCAT, OCT 19

Oman B delivered the hosts’ first victory at the World Military Beach Volleyball Championship ‘Muscat 2026’ after recovering from a set down to defeat France 2-1 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.

France took control of the opening set and won 21-15, but Oman B responded with a far more assured display in the second. The hosts levelled the match with a 21-14 win before dominating the deciding set 15-6 to complete the comeback.

The victory marked an immediate response from Oman B following their straight-sets defeat against Germany on the opening day.

Elsewhere, Qatar emerged as one of the strongest teams of the second day, recording two convincing victories. They defeated France 21-14, 21-10 before overcoming the Netherlands 21-11, 21-8. Combined with their opening win over Germany, the results extended Qatar’s unbeaten start to three matches.

Brazil also maintained their perfect record with a 2-0 victory over Sri Lanka. The Brazilian pair secured the match 21-12, 21-16, adding to their opening-day success against Oman A.

Oman A came close to joining Oman B in the winners’ column but were edged out 2-1 by Algeria. The Omani pair took a tight opening set 25-23 before Algeria responded by winning the second 23-21. Algeria then claimed the decider 15-11, handing Oman A their second narrow three-set defeat of the tournament.

In the women’s competition, Oman were beaten 2-0 by Germany, who controlled the match to win 21-4, 21-9. It was the hosts’ second defeat following their opening loss to Algeria.

France completed the day’s programme with a straight-sets victory over Sri Lanka, winning 21-10, 21-9.

The championship, featuring military teams from several countries, continues in Muscat until October 22.
