Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Lesotho signed a joint statement establishing diplomatic relations, which marks a step towards strengthening cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

The statement was signed on behalf of the Omani government by Omar bin Said al Kathiri, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and on behalf of Lesotho by Matete Nena, the kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the UN.

During the signing ceremony, Nena conveyed greetings to the Omani government from King Letsie III of Lesotho, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and National Security Samuel Matekane, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Lejone Mpotjoana.

He also expressed his country’s aspiration to elevate bilateral relations with Oman.

For his part, al Kathiri welcomed the move, describing it as an important step reflecting the two governments’ commitment to establishing diplomatic relations. He said the initiative would lay the groundwork for strengthening dialogue and opening up new avenues of cooperation in the interests of both countries and their peoples.
