Oman marked a notable presence on the international emergency medicine stage with the participation of an Omani doctor as an examiner at the prestigious Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) examinations held recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The RCEM examinations, regarded as a leading international benchmark in emergency medicine assessment, brought together specialists and examiners from several countries in an environment of professional rigour and academic excellence.

Dr Mahmoud bin Nasser al Rahbi, Senior Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Head of the Emergency Medicine Department at Samayil Hospital, was invited by the Royal College to join the international panel assessing candidates from different healthcare systems.

Speaking to the Observer, Dr Al Rahbi said he was honoured to participate as an examiner and represent Oman at the international examinations.

“It was a valuable professional experience, bringing together Emergency Medicine specialists and examiners from different backgrounds in an atmosphere of professionalism, collaboration and commitment to high standards of assessment,” he said.

Dr Al Rahbi, who is also President of the Oman Resuscitation Association, expressed his appreciation to the RCEM examination team for its preparation and coordination throughout the examination period.

“My sincere appreciation to the RCEM examination team and all those involved in the organisation for their excellent preparation and coordination. I am proud to contribute to the assessment of Emergency Medicine candidates and to represent Oman in an international professional setting,” he said. He also extended his best wishes to all candidates who took the examinations.

The participation of Omani physicians as examiners for international professional bodies such as the RCEM reflects the growing recognition of the expertise and professional capabilities of Omani doctors in emergency medicine.

The Royal College of Emergency Medicine, headquartered in the UK, conducts its examinations internationally to maintain consistent standards in emergency medical education and assessment. Its Kuala Lumpur centre is among its overseas examination locations, hosting candidates from Asia, the Middle East and other regions.

The participation of an Omani examiner at the international forum also highlights Oman's growing contribution to global medical education and professional assessment, alongside the country's continued efforts to develop specialised healthcare expertise.
