

ASTANA: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan witnessed the exchange of agreements and memoranda at the Palace of Independence in Astana on October 6.
The two countries signed five agreements and 10 memoranda of understanding, alongside a term sheet, a memorandum of cooperation, an implementation agreement and two cooperation agreements.
The agreements cover membership of the Eurasian Development Bank, the bank’s presence in Oman, the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments, air transport and the establishment of an Oman–Kazakhstan Business Council.
The memoranda of understanding cover diplomatic studies and academic training, training, financial cooperation, culture, youth, accident and incident investigation, stronger connectivity between international corridors, telecommunications and information technology, health, agriculture, livestock and fisheries.
They also include cooperation between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Kazakhstan’s National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, and between the Royal Academy of Management and Kazakhstan’s Public Service Centre.
The documents include an implementation agreement to establish a joint investment fund, cooperation on investment opportunities in oil and gas exploration and production between OQ and Kazakhstan’s national company KazMunayGas, and strategic cooperation between O-Green and Samruk Energy to develop renewable energy in Kazakhstan and international markets.
A memorandum of cooperation covers the establishment of an Omani–Kazakh centre for mineral exploration, while a term sheet relates to a Rixos hotel project at Blue City in Oman.
Signing on the Omani side were Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister; Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Minister of Finance; Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority; Anwar bin Hilal al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion; and Shaikh Dr Salah bin Salim Jaaboub, Oman’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
Other Omani signatories were Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Ashraf bin Hamad al Maamari, Chairman of OQ Exploration and Production; Mustafa bin Mohammed al Hinai, Chief Executive Officer of O-Green; and Matar bin Salim al Badi, Chief Executive Officer of Minerals Development Oman.
On the Kazakh side, the documents were signed by Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Nurlan Sauranbayev, Minister of Transport; Nurlan Zhakupov, Chief Executive Officer of Samruk-Kazyna; and other ministers, officials and chief executives. — ONA
