Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) signed an agreement with Indonesia’s GMF AeroAsia for a 20-year concession agreement for the operation and management of aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities at Muscat International Airport.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the CAA by Eng. Naif bin Ali al Abri, President of the Civil Aviation Authority, and on behalf of the company by Andy Fahrurrozi, Chief Executive Officer of Indonesia’s GMF AeroAsia.

GMF AeroAsia is the largest aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) service provider in Indonesia and a subsidiary of the Garuda Indonesia Group.  The company provides one stop aircraft maintenance services, including airframe, engine, component, line maintenance, and cabin maintenance.

Signed on the sidelines of the Civil Aviation Investment Forum, the agreement aims to provide heavy maintenance and periodic inspection services for the fleets of national, regional, and international airlines, transforming Muscat International Airport into an integrated regional hub for aviation maintenance and services by leveraging the Sultanate of Oman’s strategic location.

It also aims to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and advanced technologies in airframe, engine, and avionics maintenance, while creating specialized employment opportunities for national talent.

The Civil Aviation Investment Forum aims to showcase investment opportunities related to land development and commercial and logistics activities surrounding Muscat, Salalah, and Sohar airports, and to strengthen their role as integrated economic hubs, in addition to opportunities associated with free zones and airport-related logistics services.

The forum also seeks to attract new investments, raise awareness of investment opportunities, enhance the investor experience, strengthen integration among relevant stakeholders, and highlight investment in emerging technologies and human capital development, thereby enhancing the aviation sector’s contribution to economic diversification and supporting the objectives of the National Aviation Strategy 2040.
