JEDDAH: Yemen signed off their Gulf Cup 27 campaign with an impressive 5-2 victory over Bahrain in their final Group B match in Jeddah on Wednesday.
Although both teams had already been eliminated from the competition, the encounter produced an entertaining display, with Yemen recovering from an early setback to score four goals in the first half.
Bahrain took the lead in the seventh minute through Ali Hamoud al Dosari, but Yemen responded in the 18th minute when Nasser Mohammedou al Ghawashi collected a long pass, beat his marker and fired home the equaliser.
Captain Abdulwasea al Matari put Yemen ahead in the 31st minute with a well-placed finish, before Rami al Wasmani extended the advantage in the 40th minute.
Yemen added a fourth just before the break, with Adil Abbas Qasim scoring in the 44th minute to give his side a 4-1 half-time lead.
Bahrain reduced the deficit in the 67th minute through Ali Jaafar Madan, but Yemen remained in control and sealed the emphatic win in stoppage time.
Al Wasmani completed his brace in the 90+5th minute after a swift counter-attack, converting Ali Abbas’s pass to make it 5-2.
The result gave Yemen a positive conclusion to their tournament campaign, while Bahrain also bowed out after the group stage.
