Team finals to bring women’s bowling championship to a close

MUSCAT: Fourteen teams will contest the team finals as the 18th Women’s Bowling Championship concludes at Fun Zone in Qurum on Wednesday with the title showdown followed by the awards ceremony.

Dr Intisar bint Abdullah Ambusaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Educational Support Programmes, will attend the closing ceremony.

Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth’s Women’s Sports Department in cooperation with the Oman Bowling Committee, the championship brought together 156 players representing 26 teams from 22 government and private institutions across singles, doubles, team and Masters events.

Fourteen teams will contest the team finals as the 18th Women’s Bowling Championship concludes at Fun Zone in Qurum on Wednesday.

Seven teams from each qualifying group secured places in the team finals. Group A qualifiers were Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Royal Court Affairs B, Occidental B, Muscat Municipality, MB Holding, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development.

They will be joined by Group B qualifiers Occidental A, Sohar International, Royal Court Affairs A, the Diwan of Royal Court, OQ, Al Maha Petroleum Products Marketing B and the Consumer Protection Authority.

The championship brought together 156 players representing 26 teams from 22 government and private institutions across singles, doubles, team and Masters events.

FATMA-SAMAR CLINCH DOUBLES TITLE

Meanwhile, Sohar International’s Fatma al Balushi and Samar al Maashari clinched the doubles title with 928 points, finishing just 10 points ahead of Occidental’s Aliya al Marjabi and Maryam al Ghafri.

Majda al Nabhani and Khadija al Manji of Royal Court Affairs took third place with 808 points. PDO’s Raya al Abri and Ahlam al Marjabi finished fourth on 783, narrowly ahead of Occidental’s Hiba al Dughaishi and Muna al Manji, who scored 780.

Royal Court Affairs pair Zainab al Balushi and Husaina al Manji placed sixth with 778 points, followed by PDO’s Aisha al Seebani and Hiba al Naabi on 766. Samiya al Mahrouqi and Samar al Omairi of Royal Court Affairs finished eighth with 736.

PDO’s Mouza al Yaarbi and Sharifa al Maawali were ninth on 727, while OQ’s Manal al Kiyoumi and Muzna al Ghafri completed the top 10 with 696.

In the singles competition, PDO’s Aisha al Siyabi topped the standings with 532 points, ahead of Occidental’s Maryam al Ghafri on 520. Royal Court Affairs player Husaina al Manji secured third place with 459, three points clear of OQ’s Muzna al Ghafri. Sohar International’s Samar al Maashari finished fifth with 449.

The closing ceremony will honour the leading players and teams across the championship’s four disciplines, concluding a competition that brought together women from a broad cross-section of Oman’s public and private sectors.
