The Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed its approach to finding peaceful, consensus-based solutions to disputes—grounded in values and principles that foster shared goals of security, stability, economic development, and prosperity for all peoples—during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
In the address delivered by the Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr al Busaidi, the Sultanate of Oman emphasized that dialogue is the true value that reminds us of our common bonds; it is the optimal means to resolve differences, build trust and mutual understanding, and settle issues and crises.
Interference in the affairs of states
The Sultanate of Oman highlighted that refraining from the use of force and interference in the internal affairs of states—while instead adhering to the UN Charter and international law and respecting state sovereignty and independence—is key to regulating international relations and fostering trust and constructive cooperation among nations.
The Sultanate of Oman underscored that the region witnessed an avoidable war earlier this year; subsequent events demonstrated how the escalation threatened regional security and disrupted navigation and trade through the vital Strait of Hormuz, thereby impacting energy security, price stability, and confidence in the current global order.
Safeguarding the navigation in Hormuz
The Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed its commitment to continuing efforts aimed at safeguarding navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with the principles of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. "It called upon all parties to cooperate in these endeavors, which seek to respect and uphold the interests of all those utilizing the transit passages of the Strait of Hormuz.
Solidarity with the GCC
The Sultanate of Oman expresses its solidarity with all its neighbors—including the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)—regarding the legitimate measures they take to safeguard their security, protect their sovereignty, and maintain their territorial integrity.
Political solution in Yemen
The Sultanate of Oman reiterates its support for a political solution to the crisis in Yemen—one that preserves the unity, stability, and territorial integrity of that historic nation, and aligns with the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people across all segments of society as they pursue a path of construction, development, and prosperity. It calls upon all parties to engage and cooperate with one another to reach a just settlement to this crisis.
Condemns Israeli attacks
The Sultanate of Oman expresses its continued rejection of the ongoing Israeli attacks targeting various Arab nations, and condemns the crimes and escalating violations committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people. The Palestinians have long suffered in their quest to secure their legitimate rights and liberate their lands—based on the borders of June 4, 1967—in pursuit of the two-state solution and in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.
Sustainable development
The Sultanate of Oman affirms its unwavering commitment to sustainable development and its associated goals. Development is a fundamental right for all, with plans and programs continuing within the framework of #Oman_Vision_2040. Efforts also persist to empower women to participate actively and contribute to the development process and decision-making, affirming their integral role in building the nation’s development.
Low-carbon economy
The Sultanate of Oman continues to implement its national strategy for transitioning to a low-carbon economy through a wide range of projects and initiatives—spanning renewable energy, transport, industry, and sustainable cities—to support national efforts toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
