CAIRO: The Omani amateur theatre troupe 'With Disability We Create' has won the Mohamed Sobhi International Award for Best Integrated Theatrical Performance for its play Secrets at the 10th International Forum for the Arts of People with Special Abilities 'Our Children', held at the Egyptian Opera House in Cairo.
The Omani troupe participated alongside artists and theatre groups from 55 countries at the international forum, which seeks to showcase the talents of people with disabilities and promote their inclusion in cultural and artistic life.
The troupe presented Secrets on the Small Stage of the Egyptian Opera House, receiving strong audience response for its humanitarian themes addressing the rights of people with disabilities to full integration into society and their ability to contribute creatively to various fields of life.
The play focused particularly on women with disabilities and their right to marry, form families and lead fulfilling lives. Through a blend of human and aesthetic elements, the production highlighted that disability does not prevent creativity and achievement, and that determination can help overcome challenges.
The forum was held under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and brought together artists, groups and others interested in the arts of people with disabilities.
The achievement reflects Oman’s efforts to support and empower people with disabilities and recognise their contributions to cultural and artistic life. It also highlights the role of theatre in promoting inclusion, equality and social participation.
The award ceremony was attended by Oman’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Abdullah bin Nasser al Rahbi, who supported the Omani troupe during its participation in the event. — ONA
