Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister, met with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, at the UN headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, Sayyid Badr conveyed the greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the Secretary-General, along with His Majesty’s best wishes for success in carrying out his responsibilities and his international and humanitarian efforts.
In turn, the Secretary-General asked Sayyid Badr to convey his sincere greetings and best wishes to His Majesty the Sultan, as well as his wishes for continued progress and prosperity for the Omani people.
The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts to facilitate dialogue and bridge differing viewpoints, praising its approach based on wisdom and neutrality.
He also commended Oman’s contribution to supporting UN endeavors, enhancing prospects for the peaceful settlement of conflicts, and advancing ongoing humanitarian efforts.
The meeting addressed regional and international developments and ways to expand diplomatic avenues for containing crises and mitigating their repercussions, while emphasizing the priority of protecting civilians and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected.
The two sides also discussed strengthening cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Nations, as well as aligning efforts to build trust and forge sustainable understandings that support regional security and lay a more solid foundation for peace.
