MUSCAT: Omani novelist Mohammed bin Eid al Araimi passed away on Thursday at the age of 72, putting an end to a rich scholarly march that saw him develop into a prominent author of novels, short stories and translations.
Al Araimi, who was born in 1954 in Wadi Al Murr, Wilayat of Sur (Al Sharqiyah South Governorate), earned a BSc in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toledo, United States, in 1981.
He published a variety of novels, including “Hazz Al Qayd” (The Squeeze of the Shackle), “Bayn Al Sahra W’Al Maa” (Between Desert and Water), “Madhaaq Al Sabr” (The Taste of Patience), “Shahadah min Zaman Al Harb” (Testimony from a Time of War) and “Qaws Quzah” (Rainbow).
Al Araimi also translated (from English into Arabic) George Orwell’s famous fable ‘Animal Farm’. — ONA
