MUSCAT: A specialised medical team at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in the University Medical City has succeeded in treating a rare case of Madelung's deformity in the wrist, using advanced techniques in surgical planning and 3D printing, in a procedure considered the first of its kind in the Middle East.
This rare deformity affects the growth, shape, and function of wrist bones, requiring precise surgical planning.
The team relied on advanced imaging to create a 3D model and surgical guides specifically designed for the patient, which enhanced the accuracy of the correction and the safety of the procedure, contributed to reducing operation time and potential complications, and enabled the patient to leave the hospital on the same day following the surgery.
