Omani national coach and international lecturer Jamal bin Mohammed al Maamari has been selected by the FIVB (International Volleyball Federation) to deliver the FIVB Level 1 Coaches Course in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), marking a significant milestone in his coaching career and another recognition of Omani expertise in volleyball development.
The five-day coaching course will be held in Abu Dhabi from Monday and will run until Friday (September 25), bringing together 35 participants seeking to develop their coaching knowledge and qualifications under the FIVB coaching education programme. The assignment represents al Maamari’s first international engagement as an FIVB lecturer following an accomplished career on the court and on the sidelines, during which he has achieved notable results with clubs and national teams at various levels.
Throughout his coaching career, al Maamari has coached several Omani clubs, including Al Salam, Majees and Seeb, achieving success in domestic and international competitions. He also worked with Oman’s national teams across different age categories, in addition to the senior national team. A notable milestone in his career came with his first professional coaching experience abroad with Al Ain Club in the UAE, where he guided the team to the UAE Cup title, marking his first major achievement as a professional coach outside Oman.
Speaking to Oman Observer, coach Jamal said that the FIVB Level 1 Coaches Course in Abu Dhabi will combine theoretical lectures and practical sessions. “ The course will provide the participants with a comprehensive foundation in modern volleyball coaching methods. The course is designed to equip coaches with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to keep pace with the latest developments in volleyball and the evolving demands of the coaching profession,” he added
“ This appointment from FIVB is a great honour and I will look to gain the maximum technical output from this assignment. This also will reflect the experience I had managed to accumulate through years of coaching, education and professional development, as well as my involvement in the development of volleyball players and teams in Oman,” he ended
A career built on continuous development
Al Maamari is a graduate of Sultan Qaboos University, where he studied Education with a specialisation in English Language. He has also completed the highest-level coaching courses offered under the FIVB coaching education pathway. Over the course of his career, he has coached several clubs in Oman and achieved success at both domestic and international levels. He has also contributed to the preparation and development of Oman’s national teams across different age groups and the senior level. His professional experience with Al Ain in the UAE further strengthened his international coaching profile, while his work across various levels of the game has contributed to the development of volleyball in the Sultanate of Oman. Coach Jamal is also recognised as the first Omani professional coach in a sport other than football, representing another step in the growing presence of Omani coaching talent in professional sport beyond the traditional football arena.
