Oman energy conference to draw 5,000 participants

MUSCAT: Around 5,000 energy professionals are expected to attend the fifth Oman Electricity and Energy Conference next month, with discussions focusing on grid resilience, renewable energy, storage and emerging technologies shaping the power sector.

The conference, scheduled to begin on October 12, will be hosted by Nama Electricity Distribution Company in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Oman Section.

Participants will include representatives from utilities, government institutions, regulatory bodies, technology companies, consultancies and research centres from the Sultanate of Oman and abroad.

The conference will examine future trends in electricity generation and distribution, including advances in energy storage and recovery during periods of peak demand. Emerging technologies such as wireless electricity transmission using ultrasonic waves will also feature in the programme.

Organisers said the event would showcase international technologies in electricity production, generation and distribution while addressing challenges facing the global power industry and the efficient use of natural resources.

The conference, scheduled to begin on October 12, will be hosted by Nama Electricity Distribution in collaboration IEEE Oman.

Eng Khalfan bin Nasser al Bartamani, Head of Commercial Affairs at Nama Electricity Distribution Company, said the 2026 conference would be the largest edition to date.

The programme will focus on energy transmission pathways and grid resilience as Oman expands renewable energy capacity and works to modernise its electricity infrastructure.

Other areas of discussion will include energy efficiency, storage technologies, digital transformation, green hydrogen and efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

Eng Abdullah bin Sulaiman al Wahaibi, Chair of the IEEE Power and Energy Society Oman Section, said the conference would support knowledge exchange and contribute to the continued development of Oman’s energy ecosystem.

The event will also provide a platform for industry participants to examine technical, strategic and investment opportunities as the electricity sector shifts towards smarter, more resilient and sustainable energy systems.
