Royal Decree amends the name ‘Public Prosecution'

MUSCAT: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik issued four Royal Decrees.


Royal Decree No (79/2026) Amending some provisions of the Basic Law of the State.


Article 1: The phrase ‘Public Prosecution’ shall be replaced with ‘Office of the Attorney General” wherever it appears in the Basic Law of the State.


Article 2: Cancels all that contradicts this decree or contravenes its provisions.


Article 3 says that this Royal Decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and shall come into force from the date of its issue.


Royal Decree No (80/2026) amending the Name of the Public Prosecution.


Article 1: The name ‘Public Prosecution’ shall be amended to the ‘Office of the Attorney General’.


Article 2 says that the terms Public Prosecution and ‘Public Prosecutor’ shall be replaced by the terms ‘Office of the Attorney General and Attorney General wherever they appear in laws and Royal decrees.


The designations ‘Assistant Public Prosecutor, Assistants of the Public Prosecutor Heads of Public Prosecution, Senior Prosecutors, Second Prosecutors, and Assistant Public Prosecutors, should be replaced with the following designations: Deputy Attorney General, Assistants of the Attorney General, Heads of the Office of the Attorney General, Senior Attorney, Second Attorneys, and Assistant Attorneys, wherever they appear in laws and Royal decrees.


Article 3 cancels all that contradicts this decree or contravenes its provisions.


Article (4) states that this Royal Decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and shall come into effect from the date of its issue.


Royal Decree No (81/2026) appointing an Attorney-General.


Article 1 appoints Nasr bin Khamis bin Mohammed al Sawai as Attorney General.


Article 2 stipulates that this Royal decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and shall come into effect from the date of its issue.


Royal Decree No (82/2026) ascribes the public utility status to the project of the Design and Implementation of the Dual Carriageway Project in Barka Link Road in South Al Batinah Governorate and Al Suwaiq Link Road, in addition to the overpass in North Al Batinah Governorate.


Article 1 stipulates that the design and implementation of the dual carriageway project in Barka Link Road in South Al Batinah Governorate, and Al Suwaiq Link Road, in addition to the overpass in North Al Batinah Governorate, as specified in the attached memorandum and overall schematic drawing, should be considered among the public utility projects.


Article 2 says that the competent authorities may expropriate, through direct implementation, the lands necessary for the aforementioned project, in accordance with the provisions of the Public Utility Expropriation Law.


Article 3 says that this Royal decree decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and shall come into effect from the date of its issue.
