MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman’s refinery output fell 3.7 per cent year-on-year to 129.08 million barrels in the first seven months of 2026, as lower diesel and other refinery-product production outweighed gains in jet fuel and naphtha, preliminary official data showed.
Total motor fuel production declined 1.4 per cent in the period, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Production of regular motor gasoline (91) fell 4.5 per cent to 9.63 million barrels from 10.09 million barrels a year earlier. Sales dropped 4.6 per cent to 10.04 million barrels, while exports rose 9.8 per cent to 1.98 million barrels.
Premium motor gasoline (95) production increased 2.6 per cent to 8.32 million barrels from 8.11 million barrels. Sales, however, fell 10.6 per cent to 8.86 million barrels, while exports declined 33.9 per cent to 362,900 barrels from 549,100 barrels.
Diesel production dropped 6.8 per cent to 43.31 million barrels from 46.48 million barrels in the corresponding period of 2025. Domestic sales declined 8.3 per cent to 11.11 million barrels, while exports fell 11.8 per cent to 33.33 million barrels.
Jet fuel was among the stronger-performing products, with production rising 12 per cent to 16.79 million barrels from 14.99 million barrels.
Jet fuel exports jumped 27.4 per cent to 14.52 million barrels from 11.39 million barrels, although domestic sales declined 9.2 per cent to 2.57 million barrels.
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production fell 3.3 per cent to 6.46 million barrels, while sales declined 22 per cent to 1.76 million barrels. LPG exports bucked the trend, rising 3.9 per cent to 2.06 million barrels.
Naphtha production increased 4.5 per cent to 22.61 million barrels from 21.65 million barrels. Sales rose 3.2 per cent to 8.33 million barrels, while exports climbed 2.6 per cent to 14.66 million barrels.
Production of other refinery products declined 15.9 per cent to 21.97 million barrels from 26.12 million barrels. Sales fell 21.7 per cent to 18.32 million barrels, while exports decreased 3.1 per cent to 5.62 million barrels.
Oman’s petrochemical sector recorded mixed performance during the period.
Benzene production rose 7.3 per cent to 109,900 metric tonnes from 102,400 tonnes a year earlier, while exports increased 11.3 per cent to 108,000 tonnes.
Paraxylene production grew 9.6 per cent to 370,500 tonnes from 338,000 tonnes, with exports edging up 1.7 per cent to 372,400 tonnes.
Polypropylene recorded the sharpest production decline among the petrochemical products covered by the data, falling 25.4 per cent to 149,900 tonnes from 200,800 tonnes.
Despite the lower output, domestic polypropylene sales increased 32.1 per cent to 23,500 tonnes from 17,800 tonnes, while exports declined 17.9 per cent to 122,300 tonnes from 148,900 tonnes. — ONA
