Refinery output in Oman up 0.2% to 56.5 million barrels

MUSCAT: Refinery production in the Sultanate of Oman rose marginally by 0.2 per cent to approximately 56.5 million barrels by the end of March 2026, according to preliminary data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, although output and exports of several petroleum products showed mixed trends during the period.


Production of regular gasoline (91 octane) fell sharply by 22.8 per cent to 3.42 million barrels, compared with 4.43 million barrels a year earlier. Sales also declined by 1.5 per cent to 3.79 million barrels. In contrast, premium gasoline (95 octane) production increased by 9.5 per cent to 3.5 million barrels, while domestic sales rose by 5.9 per cent to 3.5 million barrels. However, exports of premium gasoline dropped significantly by 61.5 per cent to 415,400 barrels.


Diesel production remained broadly stable, rising marginally by 0.3 per cent to 18.01 million barrels. Domestic sales increased by 5 per cent to 4.43 million barrels, while exports edged up by 0.8 per cent to 14.89 million barrels.


Jet fuel production posted stronger growth, climbing 8.4 per cent to 6.68 million barrels by the end of March 2026. Sales surged by 19.9 per cent to 1.13 million barrels, while exports rose by 7.6 per cent to 5.45 million barrels, reflecting improving aviation activity and external demand.


Meanwhile, LPG production declined by 6.1 per cent to 2.68 million barrels. Domestic sales nevertheless increased slightly by 1.7 per cent to 994,900 barrels, while exports slipped by 2.1 per cent to 824,500 barrels.


Naphtha production rose by 1.1 per cent to 9 million barrels. Sales climbed by 13.3 per cent to 3.61 million barrels, although exports eased by 2.9 per cent to 5.92 million barrels.


Production of other refinery products increased by 3.5 per cent to 10.05 million barrels. While domestic sales declined by 18.9 per cent to 7.04 million barrels, exports surged by 46.1 per cent to 3.81 million barrels.


In the petrochemicals segment, gasoline production rose by 17.6 per cent to 52,600 metric tonnes, while exports increased by 10.5 per cent to 47,900 metric tonnes. Paraxylene production also recorded solid growth of 14.3 per cent to 160,500 metric tonnes, although exports declined by 6.6 per cent.


Polypropylene output, however, fell sharply by 34.8 per cent to 51,100 metric tonnes. Despite lower production, domestic sales rose by 26.6 per cent to 9,600 metric tonnes, while exports declined by 22.8 per cent to 47,200 metric tonnes. — ONA
