Oman Sail has concluded its high-performance training camp in Al Musannah, marking an important stage in the national sailing team’s preparations for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
The intensive camp brought together leading Omani sailors from the 49er and 29er classes, with a programme designed to sharpen tactical decision-making, improve boat-handling skills and strengthen physical conditioning ahead of the continental event.
Al Musannah provided an ideal setting for the preparations, with its advanced sailing facilities and reliable wind conditions closely reflecting those expected in Gamagori, Japan, where the sailing competitions will be held.
Throughout the camp, the sailors took part in demanding on-water sessions focused on speed, manoeuvring and tactical positioning. These were complemented by video-analysis sessions to assess performance and identify areas for improvement, as well as fitness training aimed at ensuring the athletes reach the Asian Games in peak physical condition.
The 49er squad featured Ahmed bin Ghareeb al Hasani and Waleed bin Issa al Kindi, while Feras bin Haitham al Nabhani and Tamim bin Sulaiman al Balushi represented the 29er class. The 29er sailors worked under the direct supervision of coach Zakariya bin Sulaiman al Wahabi.
Hashim al Rashdi, Head Coach Performance at Oman Sail, described the conclusion of the camp as a significant step in the national programme.
“The conclusion of this training camp in Al Musannah marks a significant step forward in our high-performance pathway,” Al Rashdi said. “Our focus throughout the week was on executing technical consistency and mastering strategic positioning. The dedication and work ethic shown by our 49er and 29er sailors have been outstanding, and the performance gains made here set a strong benchmark as we transition into our competitive cycle.”
RIGHT ENVIRONMENT
Al Wahabi said Al Musannah continued to provide the right environment for the sailors to challenge themselves and develop their skills.
“Working closely with young talents like Feras and Tamim in the 29er, alongside our experienced 49er sailors Ahmed and Waleed, allowed us to foster a highly competitive and collaborative environment,” he said. “The progress in boat speed, manoeuvring and tactical confidence over the course of the camp has been extremely encouraging.”
The completed camp forms part of Oman Sail’s wider development programme aimed at nurturing national talent, raising performance standards and strengthening Oman’s position on the international sailing map.
The Omani sailing team is scheduled to travel to Japan ahead of the official opening of the Asian Games on September 15.
