AL MAZYUNAH: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, on Saturday, opened the Harweeb-Mitn Road in the Wilayat of Al Mazyouna and the tarmac road network in the Wilayat of Maqshin in Dhofar Governorate with a total length of nearly 380 kilometres.
HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, who inaugurated the projects, said that the Dhofar Governorate is witnessing significant development to its infrastructure, as road projects represent one of the main pillars of the comprehensive development process. He added that efforts continue to enhance and develop the road network in the wilayats of the governorate.
The governor of Dhofar Governorate noted that the two projects represent a qualitative addition to the road network of Dhofar Governorate and are consistent with the objectives of the governorate’s comprehensive strategy aimed at accelerating the pace of development by raising the efficiency of infrastructure and transportation, and supporting the requirements of comprehensive and sustainable development.
Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said, "The Harweeb-Metin road project is crucial for enhancing the connectivity and transportation system in the Dhofar Governorate. It connects the centre of Wilayat of Al Mazyouna with its sub-districts, enhances its link to the Al Mazyouna dry port and free zone, and provides access to the land border crossing with the sisterly Republic of Yemen." This will enhance the wilayat’s role as a hub for trade and logistics, facilitate the smooth flow of goods, stimulate economic and commercial activity, and enhance investment, tourism and related services.
The minister said that the asphalt network project in the Wilayat of Muqshin aims to improve connectivity between the wilayat’s centre and its sub-districts and surrounding areas. This will improve the movement of people and goods, increase access to services and facilities, consolidate administrative and developmental integration, strengthen the wilayat’s institutional presence and ensure the delivery of services and development resources to all regions.
The Harweeb-Miten road project involves the construction and paving of a total road length of 210 kilometres, distributed as follows: Harweeb-Andat (45 km), Andat-Tusnat (26 km), Tusnat-Al Mazyouna (39 km), Al Mazyouna-Miten (90 km), and the Andat-Habrut (10 km).
The tarmac network project in the Wilayat of Muqshin involves the construction of a road network with a total of 170 kilometres starting from the wialayat’s centre, passing through Mandar Al Dhibyan, Al Mashash, Marsudd, Al Manadir, and Shajaj, and ending in Marsudd. This will enhance connectivity between the wilayat’s centre and its sub-districts and surrounding areas.— ONA
