Oman’s men’s volleyball team have entered the final phase of preparations for the 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship, scheduled to take place in Fukuoka, Japan, from September 4 to 13.
The national squad left for China for an overseas training camp as part of the closing stage of their build-up. Oman will play three friendly matches against China, giving Tunisian head coach Nizar Chekili a strong opportunity to test combinations, improve match rhythm and raise the team’s physical and technical readiness before travelling to Japan.
The campaign follows Oman’s morale-boosting triumph at the second West Asia Volleyball Championship in Muscat, where the hosts defeated Qatar 3-0 in the final, winning 25-19, 25-15, 25-23. The title has given the players fresh confidence ahead of a tougher continental challenge.
Oman have been drawn in Pool A alongside hosts Japan, Australia and Bahrain. Pool B includes Iran, China, India and New Zealand, while Pool C features Qatar, South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.
TACTICAL COHESION
Chekili said the current phase focuses on tactical cohesion, high fitness levels and reaching peak readiness for the Asian event. Assistant coach Humaid al Maqbali said the West Asia title was the result of collective work by the players, technical and administrative staff, and the continued support of the Oman Volleyball Association, led by Eng Ibrahim al Maqbali.
The squad includes Saud al Maamari, Mohammed al Maqbali, Yousuf al Abri, Saleh al Jalboubi, Ismail al Hidi, Majid al Shibli, Fallah al Jaradi, Adam al Jaradi, Mutasim al Harthi, Mahmoud al Saadi, Hamad al Maamari, Osama al Maamari, Abdullah al Maqbali and Abdullah al Shibli.
Player Saud al Maamari said the atmosphere in the camp remains positive after the West Asia success, adding that the players are working to improve every detail before the Asian opener.
Oman begin their campaign against Japan on September 4 before facing Australia and Bahrain in a demanding group that will test the team’s discipline, consistency and ability to perform in decisive moments.
